Over the past two weeks, our Grade 9 students stepped outside the traditional classroom for TC-9, an interdisciplinary journey designed to help them see themselves as changemakers. Grounded in Havergal’s mission, the program challenged students to examine global issues and ask, “How can I make a difference?”

Students chose a focus area connected to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. They explored complex issues through various lenses, including:

  • Sustainability: Climate Action, circular design, and urban farming.
  • Community & Wellbeing: Social justice through art, urban planning, and the importance of play.

The program wasn’t just theoretical. Students met with local leaders and took full-day excursions across the city to see how big ideas translate into local action. To help them process these experiences, we introduced several problem-solving frameworks:

  • Systems & Futures Thinking: Learning to see the big picture and imagining the long-term impact of today’s choices.
  • Design Thinking: A hands-on approach to creating solutions that actually work for people.

By the end of the program, students weren’t just thinking about problems; they were shaping personal action plans. We saw a wonderful shift in the girls as they developed greater agency and optimism. They are walking away not just with new knowledge, but with the confidence that they have the tools to contribute to a better world.

We truly appreciated the opportunity to work with your smart, curious, and talented daughters!Jeff Adams, Allison Campbell-Rogers and Adam Caplan, The HC-X Team

If their lock has gone missing, please help them replace it as soon as possible so their valuables remain protected throughout the day.
