A Message from the Heads: Cissy Goodridge & Deirdre Timusk

Dear Parents and Students

This week our Middle School took center stage. Today we were delighted by Grade 8 dancers: Alina, Chloe, Angela, Coco and Jessie, who performed a piece featuring intricate choreography set to a J-Pop song as part of the Asian Heritage Prayers. Later in the week, our Middle School students were immersed in experiential learning that truly brought concepts to life. One impactful initiative saw our students create a mock food bank. Through this hands-on experience of sorting, collecting, and packing food, they gained a deeper understanding of food insecurity and the vital role of community support. It was inspiring to witness their empathy and proactive approach to learning about and addressing this important issue.

Beyond the classroom, the enthusiasm and dedication of our students was also celebrated through a variety of awards this week. From Math and DECA to Global Learning and Leading Diplomas, and the anticipation of the Herbert Mason vote, these achievements highlight the diverse passions and talents our students cultivate outside of their regular studies. These experiences, much like the mock food bank, offer invaluable opportunities for growth, skill development, and the chance to explore their interests in meaningful ways.

These initiatives and achievements truly reflect our commitment to fostering well-rounded individuals who are not only academically strong but also deeply connected to their community and eager to make a positive impact.

Warmly,

Cissy Goodridge, Head of Middle School

Deirdre Timusk, Head of Senior School

Working Together: Responsible Parking in Our Community

There have been some concerns raised by our neighbours regarding student parking on side streets. We have received reports of students parking in a manner that has, at times, impeded garbage pickup and, according to residents, has become more frequent and for longer durations.

We kindly request that you speak with your children about the importance of responsible parking. Please emphasize the need to:

  • Avoid blocking driveways at all times.
  • Ensure garbage and recycling collection routes are clear.
  • Strictly adhere to all posted parking signs in the area.

A Message from the Heads: Cissy Goodridge & Deirdre Timusk

Dear Parents and Students,

This week’s morning programming buzzed with opportunities for our students to embody some of our key leadership attributes. Pride Week took centre stage, fostering an inclusive environment through student-led activities designed to build connection and belonging. Witnessing the Class of 2025 and 2026 collaborate in preparation for the Candlelight ceremony was a powerful example of empowering others, as the graduating class prepares to pass the torch of leadership.

Our Admission Prefects, Tessa and Isabella, demonstrated caring leadership by inviting grade 10 students to apply for a new mentoring program. This initiative will pair older students with incoming grade 9s, providing invaluable support and guidance over their first two years at Havergal.

The Guidance team also played a crucial role, meeting with grade 9 students to address their questions and dispel myths about post-secondary pathways, emphasizing the value of a well-rounded high school experience. Meanwhile, our middle school students actively engaged in our win@social program, discussing how friendships can shift and change and what steps they can take to demonstrate belonging, within our community. This week truly showcased our students actively living our leadership attributes.

Bring your sunscreen

As the weather warms up, please ensure your child comes to school with sunscreen already applied and, if possible, brings their own for reapplication. The Sorting Room

This week in the Middle School our students will transform the BRH to replicate the North York Harvest Food Bank sorting room. Our students will weigh, count and box thousands of canned goods for our community partner. This marks the final step in a months-long project where our students have engaged in community outreach to positively impact the lives of others

MS Immunization Clinic

On Thursday May 15, our Grade 7 students will be participating in the TPH Immunization clinic. Students who received their first does in the Fall will receive their second dose on Thursday.  Students who were ill or missed the first dose, are able to receive it at the clinic. A completed and signed consent form must accompany the child to the clinic. A copy of the consent form can be found HERE.

Next Week in Morning Programming

Looking ahead, our morning programming for the next few weeks will be dedicated to preparing for the House Shout. For those unfamiliar, this vibrant event, showcased in this video, involves each House creating a cheer and routine. It also marks the culmination of the House Banner competition. With the possibility of winning the House Banner still very much alive for everyone, full participation is key!

Consequently, this week marks our final grade-level program meeting. Our dedicated student grade representatives from grades 9 to 11 have designed engaging programming for their peers to celebrate the approaching end of the school year. Meanwhile, our graduating class will have a special session focused on all things Graduation, including essential information about the ceremony and their important role within it.

A Message from the Heads: Cissy Goodridge & Deirdre Timusk

Dear Parents and Students

This week we had some significant events take place off campus. The first found our students in Florida for 5 days at ICDC – the International Career Development Conference in Orlando.  Over 25000 students worldwide came together to participate in a business case competition.   We had 12 students qualify to attend the conference, including Angela L, Shuyue L, Megan P, Emily Z, Kiana K, Claire H, Ani T, Helen C, Emma W, Victoria L,tLauren S. and Samantha Z. They worked incredibly hard, studying for their exams, practicing role plays and supporting each other. Samantha Z received a top 10 medal, and Ani T made it to top 20.

We couldn’t be prouder of the dedication and effort our students have shown as members of HC DECA.

In addition, students taking Grade 12 Canadian and International Politics traveled to Ottawa. They toured the Senate, meeting with two clerks to discuss the role of committees in both the House of Commons and the Senate. In the afternoon, they toured the West Block, seeing the House of Commons, before meeting Kate Harrison, Vice-Chair of Summa Strategies, and Oksana Kishchuk, Director of Strategy and Insights at Abacus Data, to uncover the role of strategy and public relations firms. They finished the day meeting with Chris Hall, Managing Principal at Navigator Ltd. to chat about the outcomes of the federal election, before touring CBC’s Ottawa Bureau and being a guest audience for David Cochrane’s Power and Politics. It was a very busy day, learning about the various careers and facets of life on the Hill.

On Thursday evening, over 340 Havergal students, alongside faculty and staff, participated in the 7th Annual COSSOT Relay for Life—an inspiring event that raises awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. Thanks to the incredible dedication of more than 20 student organizers and the unwavering support of our community, we raised over $205,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Despite the rain, student spirits remained high as we pivoted indoors and continued with moving tributes, including a luminous ceremony honouring those affected by cancer. A powerful speech from a Grade 10 student, bravely sharing her personal experience with cancer, reminded us all why this cause matters so deeply.

We are thrilled to share that, with this year’s contributions, COSSOT Relay for Life has now raised over $1 million in just six years—a monumental achievement made possible by our students, families, and wider school community.Thank you for your generous support of this event. This year, our theme is Love to Be, a celebration of self-expression, identity, and belonging. After a few days of outdoor adventure, students will head to our Round Square partner school Tiger Kloof, where we will learn more about this highly regarded educational institution and engage in service learning through giving back to the local community. Finally, our time in Cape Town will be spent learning about South Africa’s rich and difficult history. As we explore different neighborhoods and historical sites we will learn more about the history and legacy of apartheid, the important work and experiences of figures like Nelson Mandela, as well as the vibrant and diverse cultural heritage of South Africa.

A Message from the Heads: Cissy Goodridge & Deirdre Timusk

Dear Parents and Students

Tuesday marked a truly special moment in the Havergal calendar as we celebrated Founders’ Day, commemorating the laying of the cornerstone of our Upper School on Avenue Road. It’s the one day each year when our entire community—students from Grades 1 to 12, faculty, staff, families, and Old Girls—gathers at St. Paul’s Church for a meaningful service. Led by Reverend Jillian Ruch, the celebration featured beautiful performances by all four school choirs and inspiring reflections on tradition and change from Dr. Samson, Old Girl Dr. Mary Grant (Class of 2001), and Grade 12 student Suri Li.  To view photos from our Founders’ Day event, please click HERE.

Later in the week, our community turned its focus to Earth Week, with a variety of thoughtful activities organized by the Forum for Change Council. Highlights included a Hunger Banquet to deepen understanding of poverty and food insecurity in Toronto, as well as guest speakers Judy Reda from North York Harvest Food Bank and Josephine Sindani, who shared her powerful journey from food bank client to successful business owner. It was a week rich in learning, reflection, and meaningful action as students explored how to care for both people and the planet.

Also this week, the Social Sciences department hosted its 13th annual interdisciplinary evening for Grade 12 students, examining the role of social sciences in understanding world events such as the Rwandan genocide. The evening featured thoughtful discussions and insights from special guests Associate Professor Ira Wells (Victoria College, UT) and former ICC Deputy Prosecutor James K. Stewart.

Finally, our senior student art exhibit continues this week, running from April 24 to 27 at the Northern Contemporary Gallery in Roncesvalles—a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their creativity in a professional gallery setting. If you are in the neighbourhood, we hope that you will drop by.

A Message from the Heads: Cissy Goodridge & Deirdre Timusk

Dear Parents and Students,

This week has been rich with moments that speak to the strength of our student body and the values we hold dear at Havergal.

We began the week with speeches from our five exceptional School Captain candidates, each one offering thoughtful reflections on leadership, community, and what it means to serve others. They were joined by many other students vying for leadership roles across the school. The sheer number of students who put themselves forward is a testament to their deep engagement in school life and their desire to give back. Their words were personal, inspiring, and marked by a genuine commitment to making Havergal an even better place for their peers.

On Wednesday, we celebrated the achievements of over 50 Grade 12 students at our Arts Awards Assembly. These young people have shaped our community through music, drama, dance, and visual art—and their contributions over the years have brought both beauty and meaning to our shared life at the school. The ceremony featured several moving performances that captured the spirit of the occasion and reminded us of the powerful role the arts play in building community.

Finally, our Easter Prayers asked a simple but profound question: “What does Easter mean to you?” We heard from a student, a teacher, and our Chaplain, each of whom spoke with honesty and grace about how their faith shapes their lives. It was a reflective and heartfelt service that invited us all—regardless of belief or background—to consider the role of hope, renewal, and compassion in our own lives.

Wishing you a peaceful weekend,

Cissy Goodridge, Head of Middle School

Deirdre Timusk, Head of Senior School

This event, which last year raised over $300,000 to fight cancer, gathers more than 1000 students, staff and parent reps from COSSOT schools to share their commitment to support cancer research and those living with the disease that affects so many of us. Our goal is to end cancer in our students’ lifetime.

Your child may be asking for your support to sign up for Relay, which requires a credit card to pay the $20 registration fee (all of which goes to our fundraising total) and to support their fundraising efforts.

Here’s what you or your daughter can expect at the event:

  1. You have one member of your team running or walking at all times for the Relay time (4 hours)

A quick and cheerful reminder as we look ahead to next week: on Tuesday, our students will be attending the Founders’ Day Service at St. Paul’s. Please remind your daughters to wear their #1 Dress uniform on Tuesday. We want every student to feel proud and polished as we come together for this special Havergal tradition.

A Message from the Heads: Cissy Goodridge & Deirdre Timusk

Dear Parents & Students,

The surprise return of Winter arrived just in time for our Disney themed Athletic Assembly! Teachers and members of our sports council belted out songs from Frozen, in a fun filled assembly that honoured the athletic achievements of our students.

Later in the week, Kelly Beale, who leads Ontario’s Legal Support Program for Victims of Human Trafficking, met with our parents and Grade 9 students.  She provided insights into how trafficking situations can develop—including online interactions and deceptive relationships—and offer strategies for fostering open conversations at home.

If you would like to learn more, HERE is a list of resources that Kelly has shared with us.

On Thursday we were delighted with the sounds and talents of our students at Senior Music night. The program featured music from a variety of genres and it was a wonderful way to end a busy week. Congratulations to all of our performers!

As we look forward to our upcoming long weekend, we’d like to wish Happy Passover to members of our community who are celebrating this weekend. May this time be filled with joy, connection, and rest for all. Wishing everyone a safe and relaxing weekend!

Empowering Excellence Progress Update: Year One

A year ago, we launched our Empowering Excellence Strategic Plan. As strategy expert Kathleen Eisenhardt puts it, “Strategy answers two basic questions: Where do you want to go, and how do you want to get there?” For us at Havergal, the answer is clear: to solidify Havergal’s position as a world leader in girls’ education by ensuring the long-term wellbeing and success of young women, empowering them to be change agents of the future and to make a positive, lasting difference in the world.

Focusing on three key pillars — Connection, Wellbeing & Belonging, Future-Ready, and Transforming Tomorrow — we’ve begun our commitment by investing in programs, people and our campus.

We are pleased to share a Year One progress update, with key highlights and milestones we have achieved together. These initiatives underscore our commitment and build upon Havergal’s 130-year legacy of delivering excellence in girls’ education. We look forward to continuing our journey to prepare girls for success in every possible version of the future.

Rwanda Revisited: An Interdisciplinary Approach to the Rwandan Genocide in Grade 12

For the past 13 years, the Social Sciences department has hosted an evening of dialogue for Grade 12 students taking law, world issues, economics, politics, world history, and philosophy. The focus of this evening has been to bring interdisciplinary conversation around the events and case-study of the Rwanda genocide, and with a general question leading us to inquire, “What is the role of the social sciences in interpreting world-historical events of genocide?” This year, students will again participate in discussion and be treated to conversation with two very special guests—Associate Professor Ira Wells (Victoria College, UT) and former Deputy Prosecutor for the ICC, James K. Stewart.

A Message from the Heads: Cissy Goodridge & Deirdre Timusk

Dear Parents and Students

Welcome back! It has been such a joy to welcome everyone back to school after the March Break. While the weather may still be catching up, the arrival of spring brings longer days, warmer temperatures, and the excitement of all that’s ahead. The final term always seems to fly by, and with summer just a few months away, we are looking forward to making the most of every moment.

On Tuesday, during the Noria STEM Speaking Series, we welcomed alumnae Sonja Agarwal to Prayers. Sonja, currently the Global Account Executive for Google Cloud, shared the winding journey of her career—including being rejected from her top university choices, earning a degree in criminology, and her time at IBM. At times emotional, her message of perseverance, the power of being the only woman on her team, and the importance of finding joy in the process resonated deeply with our students. We are grateful for the amazing alumni who are willing to share their experiences with our students.

On Thursday, our students took center stage with their Nowruz presentation during Prayers. Emma, Jana, Maya and Stephanie, shared stories of their family traditions, and we were treated to a beautiful traditional Persian dance. The morning concluded with a moving announcement about the upcoming Relay for Life, as Becca shared her personal reason for participating. We look forward to joining this meaningful COSSOT event next month.

Next week is Arts Week, and we are excited for the opening of the Salon, along with a variety of creative activities for our community to enjoy.

As we step into this season of reflection and renewal, we also extend our warmest wishes to our families celebrating Ramadan. May this time bring you and your loved ones joy, peace, and happiness.

Sincerely,

Cissy Goodridge, Head of Middle School

This year’s Founders’ Day celebration will be held at 9:45 am on Tuesday April 22 at St. Paul’s Bloor Street church (227 Bloor Street East) – Havergal’s original parish church. Attendance is mandatory for all students in the Upper School.

A part of the Founders’ Day tradition includes hearing the Junior School (Grades 1-6), Middle School, and Senior Choirs perform. This year’s Graduating Class plays a special role at Founders’ Day, and will process into the church wearing Marguerite Pins awarded by Dr. Samson – a gift from the Havergal Old Girls Association (HOGA). The Marguerite Pin symbolizes a graduating student’s passage into the Old Girls/Alums network of over 9,500 members.

Founders’ Day is a birthday, of sorts, that builds community – our community. It’s a longstanding tradition in the life of Havergal that brings together students and faculty from both the Junior and Upper Schools alike. It marks the anniversary of the cornerstone being laid at the “New School” on Avenue Road in 1926. It is very special indeed.

Parents will be contacted separately in regards to these excursions. Students must be present at the service to attend these excursions.

Important Details

  • Upper School students make their own way to the church by 9:15 am (227 Bloor Street East, Map & Directions).  The closest subway station is Yonge (West of church) or Sherbourne (East of church).
  • Boarding students will be bussed from HC to St. Paul’s Bloor Street. The bus departs @ 8:15 am.
  • The Graduating Class will be presented with their Marguerite Pins by Principal Dr. Samson and HOGA Directorate President Lexi Ensor at 9:15 am in Cody Hall at St. Paul’s Church.

  • The Service begins at 9:45 am and will last approximately one hour.

  • Once back on campus ice cream will be served to commemorate the anniversary at Havergal.
  • Regular Block A (Period 3) and Block B (Period 4) classes will be held in the afternoon after the service. See Special Schedule.

Please reach out to Matthew Varey, Director of Arts  or Rev. Jillian Ruch, Chaplain if you have any questions.

Parent Speaker Invitation:  Human Trafficking Speaker:  Tuesday, April 8, 7 pm

On April 8, grade 9 students will hear from Kelly Beale who currently leads Ontario’s Legal Support Program for Victims of Human Trafficking. As independent counsel for victims of human trafficking, she provides confidential legal advice and support to victims of human trafficking across the province to help them escape their trafficking situations. This program is the first of its kind in North America and Kelly regularly presents at human trafficking conferences, in the media, and at schools on how it assists with efforts to end human trafficking. The talk will define and explain human trafficking, how it happens in today’s context, including warning signs to identify a trafficking or luring situation. She will also speak to the students about what to do if they, or a friend, find themselves in this position. We know that our students will greatly benefit from learning more about this important topic.

We invite all parents to join us at 7 PM for a talk by Kelly on human trafficking. She will discuss its potential impact on your daughters and share strategies for open and effective conversations at home. If you are interested in attending please complete this registration form.

Student Leadership At Havergal

At Havergal, leadership is guided by five key attributes: Integrity, Collaboration, Resilience, Empathy, and Vision. These qualities help students develop confidence, build meaningful connections, and make a positive impact in their school community. Parents can support their children by reinforcing that leadership is not just about titles but about everyday actions that inspire and support others.

Havergal College offers a wide range of leadership opportunities for students in Grades 7-11, including over 200 informal roles and 300+ formal positions. Leadership pathways include student councils, service initiatives, themed events, performing arts, and athletics. The selection process involves applications, speeches, and elections, with final decisions announced in April. Many other opportunities emerge throughout the school year and students are informed about those additional opportunities at that time.
If you would like to learn more please see this video recording.

Music Ensembles at Ontario Festivals

Two of our amazing musical ensembles will be participating in provincial festivals in April.  Our Senior School Choirs will perform at the Ontario Vocal Festival on Friday March 28, and our Strings Ensemble will participate in the Ontario Strings Festival on April 17.  We wish them both luck and look forward to remarkable performances.

Join Us in Supporting Women in Sport!

Brenda Ha, a Havergal alumna, recently spoke to our students about her journey and the exciting launch of Toronto AFC, Toronto’s new professional women’s soccer club. This is a fantastic opportunity to cheer on elite women athletes and show our support for the growth of women’s professional sports.

In Form This Week

This week in Form, our Grade 7 students began discussing identity and celebrating the unique characteristics that make each of us who we are. Next week, they will create an “identity flower” to represent their individuality, with the opportunity to display them in their Form rooms—symbolizing the diverse and vibrant community we have in the Middle School.

Meanwhile, our Grade 8 students revisited their community agreements, engaging in thoughtful discussions about real-life scenarios that may challenge these commitments. In small groups, they explored meaningful questions, leading to insightful reflections such as:

If we go about our day without actively thinking about our agreements, are we truly making the school a better place?

When you’re added to a group chat that makes you uncomfortable, step up and remove yourself.

To honor personal boundaries, it’s important to recognize that not everyone is comfortable sharing or borrowing personal items. Always ask first.

Our students never cease to impress with their depth of thought and understanding of complex issues. In the coming weeks, we will continue exploring themes of food security, justice, and charity—culminating in a visit from the North York Harvest Food Bank.

The guidance team will be working with grade 11 students and we are delighted to be bringing in three alumni who will be speaking to the grade 12 students about their chosen careers.

These sessions are carefully designed to provide students with meaningful learning experiences, whether through leadership development, career exploration, or personal growth. By engaging in these opportunities, students will gain valuable insights, build essential skills, and prepare for their future academic and professional journeys.

A Message from the Heads: Cissy Goodridge & Deirdre Timusk

Dear Parents and Students

As we head into March Break, we want to extend our sincere gratitude for an engaging and productive second term. It is a privilege to work alongside our exceptional educators, our curious and capable students, and you—our amazing families.

This past week, we celebrated International Women’s Day with a special guest speaker, Brenda Ha, an alumna and parent of a Grade 8 student Mya. She shared her inspiring journey after graduation and her role as co-founder of AFC, Canada’s first professional women’s soccer club. In her speech she encouraged students to be part of history at AFC’s inaugural game at BMO Field on April 19. The celebration concluded with a powerful performance by the Senior Choir, who honored the occasion with What Happens When a Woman. You can see a previous performance of this powerful work by our choir here.

Even over the break, our students remain active and engaged around the world. We have students on exchange in seven different countries — Australia, Argentina, France, Germany, South Africa, England, and Scotland — as well as over 40 rowers in Tennessee for a week of spring training. We know they will return with new experiences and perspectives, and we look forward to hearing their stories.

When we return, we eagerly anticipate the start of the spring athletic season, warmer weather, and the many cherished traditions that make this time of year so special.

Wishing you and your families a restful and rejuvenating March Break!

Sincerely,

Cissy Goodridge, Head of Middle School

Deirdre Timusk, Head of Senior School

Volunteer Hour Opportunity: Water First Citizen Science Initiative

Water is essential to life and carries spiritual and environmental significance. In Indigenous cultures, water is considered sacred and living, making it an integral part of their beliefs and traditions. Water First, one of Havergal’s community partnerships, invites students to show their care for water on campus. We are introducing a Citizen Science initiative where students in Grades 9-12 will be given the opportunity to take water samples from the Burke Brook (located within Havergal’s campus). The water samples retrieved will be used to collect data on the brook’s health and identify trends. By participating in this, students will receive ONE volunteer hour. We encourage students to sign up soon as spaces are limited! We are excited to introduce this initiative to the Havergal community, and are looking forward to your enthusiasm!

Please contact Mr. Nichols at gnichols@havergal.on.ca for more information.

A Message from the Heads: Cissy Goodridge & Deirdre Timusk

Dear Parents and Students

This week at HC was jam-packed with student-led initiatives, guest speakers, and performances.

The week began with a thought-provoking message from Shreya Gupta, a Grade 10 student, author, and humanitarian.  Shreya shared her personal experience with bullying, which inspired her to write two books and left the school with a challenge: “to keep trying, creating, and doing, to make the world a better place.”

February 26 marked Pink Shirt Day, where our Grade 12 students collaborated with Middle School students on a crafting activity following a presentation on bullying. This activity helped continue meaningful conversations about what they had learned.

On Thursday, our Middle School students led Prayers and challenged our Senior School students to an engaging game of “Are You Smarter Than A Middle Schooler?” The Middle School students emerged victorious, leaving our community with a deeper appreciation of what it means to be a Middle School student at HC.

In athletics, we proudly hosted several CISAA Championships this week. Our winter sports program saw impressive participation with over 425 students across 27 teams. Every team qualified for CISAA playoffs, with Havergal securing nine CISAA championships! While we celebrate these achievements, we’re equally proud of our Gators’ team spirit and sportsmanship.

During the lunch hour, there were several activities for our students to participate in. Some of these included cultural lunches put on by our Hellenic and BIPOC clubs, as well as the Senior Drama Performance.

Finally, the Senior School’s production of Roald Dahl’s Matilda opened last evening, captivating our community. Our students showcased their talents both on stage and behind the scenes, delivering outstanding performances. Congratulations to the cast and technical crew for their dedication in bringing this wonderful show to life! Tickets are still available and can be purchased on the portal under HC Box Office.

March Update Report Card Available: Wednesday, March 5 – 4 pm

Your daughter’s March ‘Update Report’ is available through a link on your Parent Portal beginning at 4 pm on March 5. The information below will help you locate your daughter’s report.

●  Log in to the Havergal College Parent Portal

●  Once on the Veracross Parent Portal landing page, look for the “Reports” tab under “My Children” and click on the September – March link.

●  Be sure to save/print a copy of your daughter’s report. Look for the ‘Print to PDF’ link in the upper right hand corner of the report.

The Update Report includes a measure of student progress, learning skills and a short comment.  This comment reflects what the teacher feels is most important for that student at this time. Report card grades are determined by examining a student’s assessment data. Students and their families must recognize that this report is a snapshot of student progress that may shift over the next few months and that ongoing live data is available through the gradebook. As a reminder, students should review their assessments and the teacher’s feedback to see how they are doing in each course. They can also check the gradebook in Canvas regularly to see their most current mark.

Grade 7 and 8 Art and Drama Courses: For Grade 7 and 8 Art and Drama, which run for part of the semester, a report card mark and comment will be added for classes that have completed the course by the time the report card is issued.  Classes who are midway through the course or who have not started the course will have a report card mark and comment on the final report card.

Grade 10 Careers and Civics Half Credit Courses: For Grade 10 Careers and Civics, the update report card will contain the mark for the course that has been completed by the time the report card is issued. The final report card will contain the marks for both courses.

If you have any questions about this report, please do not hesitate to contact the subject teacher for clarification.

Ramadan Mubarak

Ramadan begins tonight (February 28) and continues through March 29. This sacred month is one of deep reflection, spiritual growth, acts of service, and meaningful connection with family and community. We want to ensure that students observing Ramadan – especially those who are fasting – feel supported throughout the month. Please encourage your child to let their teachers and coaches know if they are fasting or need time for prayers etc. so we can support them in the best way possible. During Ramadan, the Chapel will also be available during lunch and breaks for prayer, rest, or quiet time.

We look forward to celebrating Ramadan and Eid-al-Fitr together at US Prayers on Thursday, April 3, and JS Prayers on Friday, April 4. Please keep an eye out for an invitation to the Parent reception following Prayers—we’d love for you to join us!

Wishing all who are observing a peaceful and meaningful Ramadan!

Lent Resources and Ash Wednesday Short Service on Wednesday, March 5 in Chapel

In the Christian Calendar, many Christians participate in the Season of Lent, which is the 40 days prior to Easter.  Rev. Ruch will be sending out weekly emails with Lenten Resources for anyone who is interested.  Please email her and she will add you to her list.  These emails will begin on March 5 (Ash Wednesday) and finish at Easter.

There will also be a short service at 8am in the Chapel on Ash Wednesday (March 5) and parents are invited to join us.

Travelling for March Break? Measles is just a plane ride away

Measles continues to spread in many parts of the world and in Canada. If you are planning to travel over March Break, get the best protection for you and your loved ones by staying up-to-date with your routine vaccines, including the measles vaccine.

These vaccines are available from your healthcare provider or at a Toronto Public Health (TPH) community clinic for school-aged children, by appointment. Visit TPHbookings.ca for more information.

If you are unsure of your child’s vaccination status, check their yellow card (Ontario Immunization Record), TPH’s Immunization Connect Ontario (ICON) or by speaking with their primary health care provider.
