Use of Personal Mobile Devices at Havergal College
There has been much attention to the use of cell phones and other devices in schools in recent months.
Havergal has always had a thoughtful approach regarding the use of devices in school, and we are carefully reviewing our current policies and practices. We will be communicating any updates to families and students in advance of the next school year.
Finally, we also invite you to listen to this episode of The Harvard Edcast, which provides you with some ideas for device usage over the summer.
AI Summer Program Taught by Stanford Alumni, Hosted at Havergal
This summer, Inspirit AI is offering an in-person, 30-hour pre-college AI program hosted at Havergal College that teaches students in grades 8-12 fundamental AI concepts and guides them to build socially impactful projects such as safe ChatGPT bots, exoplanet search, self-driving car systems, and more!
Stanford and MIT graduates in AI will be present in-person from July 15-26 to teach. Please read more information in the program brochure and apply here. If you cannot attend in person, students may apply to the live online program. Program contact: Jared Greene, jaredgreene@inspiritai.com. Thank you!
Please note: The summer program is open to students from all schools and is not run by Havergal College. Inspirit AI is a partner of HC-X and will support the upcoming fall and winter HC-X Digital Microcredentials program.

Youth Without Shelter (YWS) – Supporting Queer Youth – Period Product Drive
In honour of Pride Week, our student planning team is partnering up with Youth Without Shelter to collect period products for all youth who access the shelter. YWS is a safe place for all youth including queer youth struggling to find a sense of belonging and reliable resources.
For the next two weeks (May 21-31, 2024) we are inviting students to bring in period products to support the youth that access the shelter. Donations could include the following products:
- Sanitary napkins (pads)
- Tampons
- Panty liners
- Menstrual cups
All products can be dropped off in the B-Hallway by the staff room. We appreciate your support at this time.
Next Week in Grade Programming Time
As the year comes to a close we are beginning to wrap our programming. Our Grades 9 and 10 Grade Reps have been eagerly planning the final advising session for the students in their grades. Our Grade 11 students will be rehearsing for Candlelight and our Grade 12s will join them after they complete some final tasks for graduation with their university counsellor.
